Laplante Guitars is a small lutherie shop located on the shores of Lake Ontario, Kingston, Canada. Like a lot of lutherie shops, its org chart is fairly simple: one owner, me, and one employee, ..me (this definitely simplifies labour negociations). My passion for guitar building was triggered about 15 years ago when I got frustrated not being able to find any decent "lefties" on the market (yup, I play the wrong way...). So, as a result, I built my first one. Since then, I've built over 30 guitars and, despite this small number - by mass production standards - I've managed to make quite a few players happy. My mission now, is to make more players happy...
Part of my shop is shown to the left (I'm the character in the back). Not quite what you were expecting ? Well, most small lutherie shops look like that. Space is a premium and all tonewoods, jigs, templates, molds, are stacked away. Bigger tools are on wheels and brought to center stage when needed.
